Lake Kivu lies on the border between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is part of Africa’s famous Great Rift Valley, known for its amazing landscapes and volcanic history. The lake sits high up in the hills at about 1,460 meters (4,790 feet) above sea level, making the air cool and fresh all year.
Many years ago, strong volcanic activity and earth movements created a deep valley in this region. Over time, the valley filled with water and that’s how Lake Kivu was born. Some of the islands in the lake were once part of the mainland before the lake appeared, which makes it a truly unique natural creation.

•May to August – Best for activities: The weather is warm, dry, and great for swimming, kayaking, and hiking. However, the sunlight can be strong for photos.
•September to November– Best for both: This season gives a perfect balance of good weather and beautiful skies ideal for outdoor fun and photography together.
While December to April is rainy but Still can be visit because in Rwanda the weather is always mixed with Rain and sun.
